What makes us human? This is what Ferdinand Sarnitz and Act.Now seek to find in the new YouTube series “Mensch”. In interviews with outstanding people from various backgrounds and continents he asks a set of 16 questions in an effort to find out who they are, how they think, and what drives them to do what they do.
The project was developed by Made Jour Label for Act.Now, an organization supporting social cohesion, creating international networks and organizers of the International Mayors’ Conference NOW.
The interviewees talk about their roots, their values, their sources of energy and their view on humanity. “Mensch” aims to inspire and motivate viewers by exploring why and how different people engage in the cohesion of our societies. Each of them – whether scientist, politician, social worker, activist, artist – contribute to a successful coexistence.

“Mensch (Yiddish: mentsh, cognate with the German word Mensch meaning a ´human being´) means ´a person of integrity and honor´ […] The term is used as a high compliment, implying the rarity and value of that individual´s qualities.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mensch)
As different as the portrayed humans are – regarding occupations, origins, spheres of influence and motivation – their commonality is their drive for positive change in our society. Each and every one of us is capable of doing good and being courageous. “Mensch” aims to portray role models who deserve respect and appreciation. The interviews have been shot in the course of recent NOW Conferences, NOW Working Groups and other events initiated by Act.Now.
